Things To Do Before Your Tummy Tuck
Things To Do Before Your Tummy Tuck
By Arturo Ronzon
After you have determined that you want to investigate having a tummy tuck further, your next step is to schedule a consultation. This is usually free, and your plastic surgeon will thoroughly go over your health issues, and determine the concentration of fat deposits in your abdomen. He will also pay close attention to the tone of your skin.
When you tell him about your desire for the surgery, be specific about what you want done. He ll be better able to tell you whether your goals are realistic, if you make sure he fully understands what you want as the final outcome. When you are researching your tummy tuck, look for photos of the procedures on the Internet.
If you have any health issues, such as: diabetes, heart problems, lung, liver, or poor circulation, make sure your doctor is fully aware. Also, give your doctor a list of all the medications you are taking, including any over the counter meds, and natural, or herbal products. Include vitamins as well, because any of these may adversely affect the way your body reacts to medications you must have during and after the surgery. Take in any photos you have taken before your tummy tuck, which document the “before”.
Any family history of blood clots, or if you smoke, should all be noted on your paperwork. Discuss your medical history in detail with your doctor, before making the decision to go ahead with surgery.
Before Surgery:
1. Ask for copy of your plastic surgeon s protocol.
2. Do not take anti-inflammatory drugs or aspirin.
3. Are you a smoker? If so, you should stop for 2 to 3 weeks before your surgery. Don t plan to start again during the recovery and healing process, as this will tend to increase complications caused as a result.
4. Fill prescriptions.
5. Choose someone to drive you to and from the surgery location.
6. Ask someone to be with you for the first 24-72 hours after surgery.
7. Prepare and freeze meals for 2 weeks Consider ready mixed protein drinks, juices, etc.
8. Have a comfortable place to rest, with TV, phone, etc. nearby.
9. Put Ice packs in freezer to reduce post-op swelling.
10. You may not feel up to brushing for a day or two.
12. Stool softener. Your medications may cause constipation.
13. Have eye drops handy for dry eyes.
14. Put on something loose and comfortable to go to and from the surgery location.
15. Pick out a nice outfit to get your photo taken in after the tummy tuck. You ll want to show off the new you.
The next step is to get mentally prepared. Concentrate on positive thoughts!
You re going to look great!
