Walk by a gym and it always seems like someone is in the process of signing up. How is it that the gym can hold all those people? Well, it can t. Most people get a membership, workout a few weeks and then stop!
The busiest time for gyms is directly following the holiday season. Many people believe that they will join, drop fifty pounds, and look great … right after indulging in a last bit of apple pie. Though these people often make it to their chosen gym, they spend a few months lifting weights and never return. Why does this happen? Simply put, the number one reason is lack of motivation.
Sure, losing weight sounds like a great idea right after a large holiday meal, but when the days start to get a bit warmer and the spring air starts to come abound, who wants to be stuck in a gym? Most people simply hate the idea of breathing stale gym air … though you won t find them enjoying the great outdoor either. Let s be realistic - life is far too exciting to waste exercising … and this is exactly why most people never keep their memberships.
Another reason why people fail is that they do not feel comfortable. Once a person begins to feel strange and awkward in a gym, excuses start to prevent them from working out. For example, if you notice that everyone at your gym seems to have been born wearing spandex, the very thought of squeezing into lycra may make your skin crawl. So, what happens? Suddenly, you become too tired too sick or too busy to go - the mind has an amazing way of helping us to opt out of our workout regimen.
Now that you know why a gym is crowded during January and dead during the Easter season, how can you avoid this pattern from occurring? Set strong goals for yourself and stick to them find comfortable workout clothes and (most importantly) find a gym that you feel good about. The sooner you realize that working out will benefit your health, the sooner you ll feel excited about exercising. Even two weeks of working out can make you feel like a new person.
Remember, there are many reasons why people drop memberships, but you don t have to be part of the sixty percent that do. Merely getting yourself to go is the difficult part, the exercise bit will simply come naturally once you are inside.
